The worshipping community here in Skelton have been and still are going through some exciting and equally challenging times as we start to meet in our new building in the former Skelton Green Village Hall. We finally moved in at Christmas 2013 and are now settling in to our new home. With the new premises comes a new name: Skelton Methodist Community Church.
Methodism started in Skelton in the latter half of the 1750s, starting as a small fellowship until the first premises were built and opened in 1816 at the bottom of Green Road. Later, divisions started both locally and nationally resulting in the new Primitive Methodists building a place of their own further up the road. The Wesleyans then began to outgrow their premises and building commenced on a new larger structure across the road. It opened in 1877 and worship continued up until 2012 once the congregation had shrunk to a level that it was no longer feasible to maintain a building of its size.
Thank you for your continued prayer and support for this time of moving and settling in, that we will continue to faithfully serve and witness for Christ in our community.
